Preface: Gitea Actions Workflow with LLM Optimizations is not a mainstream or standard term in the DevOps industry, but the practice of combining Large Language Models (LLMs) with Gitea Actions is a rapidly growing niche, particularly within the self-hosted, Homelab, and privacy-focused open-source communities.
Background: Based on a comprehensive Gitea Actions workflow that incorporates LLM optimizations, the system must support the following:
Task 1 (Evaluation with GPU/Cache), Task 2 (AI Code Review), and Task 3 (Your Docker step), the workflow must introduce:
1. Self-Hosted GPU Runners (runs-on: gitea-gpu): Essential for running LLM evaluations or inference using local Tensor Cores.
2. Persistent Shared Volume Caching: Binding a local host directory to cache base models (e.g., Hugging Face cache) so they aren’t redownloaded every run.
3. Multi-stage Docker Builds: To compile GPU-accelerated dependencies (like vLLM or FlashAttention) efficiently.
When developers implement “LLM optimizations” in Gitea, they generally build or use tools for below case.
Unlike GitHub users who readily connect to cloud-based APIs, Gitea users often choose the platform for data privacy. A very popular workflow involves hooking Gitea Actions to Ollama running on local hardware (like a GPU server). When a Pull Request is opened, the runner extracts the git diff, sends it to a local model (e.g., Llama-3 or Gemma), and automatically posts code review comments.
Vulnerability details: In vulnerable versions of Gitea, the organization repository-creation API endpoint (POST /api/v1/orgs/{org}/repos) incorrectly checks authorization scopes.
The Impact: If an attacker gets their hands on a scoped token restricted only to reading/writing organization profiles (but intentionally barred from touch-managing code repositories), they can bypass that restriction. They can abuse this API endpoint to successfully spin up unauthorized new repositories inside your Gitea organization.
Remedy: You need to upgrade your self-hosted instance to Gitea version 1.27.3 or higher.
