Preface: NVIDIA NeMo (including its NeMo Speech and conversational AI frameworks) is an open-source toolkit used broadly by enterprises, developers, and researchers rather than being locked to a single proprietary client.
Build an ASR (speech-to-text) or TTS (text-to-speech) pipeline? Is this an advantage of Nvidia Nemo?
Yes, building customized ASR (Speech-to-Text) and TTS (Text-to-Speech) pipelines is the primary advantage of NVIDIA NeMo.Unlike rigid, pre-built speech APIs (like Google Cloud Speech or OpenAI Whisper’s standard API), NeMo is designed for developers who need to train, fine-tune, and deploy their own highly specialized speech models.
Background: In NeMo Speech, if you attempt to run pickle.load() on a file that contains a pickled TabularTokenizer object, Python reads the file, extracts the reference path, and attempts to look up that exact class name in its currently running memory environment. If Python cannot find the definition or if the module path isn’t loaded, the unpickling process fails with an AttributeError. Defining the class beforehand establishes the physical “blueprint” that Python needs to construct the structure before filling it with the data stored in the file. Is this the normal procedure?
Yes, this is completely normal and standard behavior for how Python’s built-in pickle module operates. It is not an issue unique to NVIDIA NeMo; it is a core characteristic of Python serialization.
Vulnerability details: While establishing the blueprint explains how Python executes the deserialization step, relying blindly on pickle[.]load() to populate the class attributes introduces a severe security flaw.
The TabularTokenizer component in NVIDIA NeMo Speech contains a known critical vulnerability documented under CVE-2026-65179 (CWE-502: Deserialization of Untrusted Data). Because pickle[.]load() will arbitrarily reconstruct any data or call internal execution instructions (__reduce__) stored inside the file to recreate the object, loading an unvalidated or untrusted [.]pkl file can trigger Arbitrary Remote Code Execution (RCE)on your system.
Remedy: For the CVE-2026-65179 vulnerability in NeMo Speech (on all platforms or operating systems), the version needs to be updated to 3.0.
